DIY PROJECT || #5 || SPRINKLED GLASS ORNAMENTS

Sunday, December 30

INGREDIENTS YOU'LL NEED:

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP ONE: Using a campagne class bottom, trace a circle onto the colored paper using a pen
STEP TWO: Cut out the circles.
STEP THREE: Decide which area you want sprinkled and begin applying double-stick tape in straight lines until the area is fully covered. STEP FOUR: Cut the excess tape that hangs off the edges for a flawless look.

STEP FIVE: Lightly sprinkle the area -- make sure to cover every bit, it's okay to go a bit overboard (remember Kindergarden?)
STEP SIX: Press the sprinkles into the tape so they stick then tap off the extras. Add various colors or try different designs!
ENJOY THE BIG NIGHT!

DIY Project || #4 || Golden Elbow Patches

DIY golden elbow patches

INGREDIENTS YOU'LL NEED:

DIY golden elbow patches
INSTRUCTIONS:

DIY golden elbow patches
STEP ONE: Gather the fabric you wish to use to make the patches. I actually cut the bottom off a golden vintage top that I have owned for a couple years now but never put to use. I first cut two large rectangles about the size of my hand.
STEP TWO: Trim the edges of the rectangles so you get two equal sized oval pieces.

STEP THREE: Pin ovals onto the back elbow areas of each sweater sleeve. Make sure you try the sweater on before sewing to check that the patches are pinned to the right area. Learn from my silly mistake -- it's not that cute to have an elbow patch on your bicep...
STEP FOUR: Gather thread and a needle. I chose black because it was the same base color of the fabric under the gold.

STEP FIVE & SIX: Sew ovals in a loop like style. Start from the inside and sew the edges like a spiral. This ensures that the patch will look clean against the sweater and won't have any bulges in the fabric when you bend your elbows.

And that's all! Overall, this project took me about 30 minutes and technically didn't cost me anything new (already owned the sweater and materials)! Now that's a fashion bargain. Enjoy!

VISUAL DELIGHT || #2 || MERRY XMAS!

Wishing you all a merry holiday and plenty of cheer!

FRIDAY'S FIVE FAVES || #3 || XMAS EVE

Friday, December 21

This is the best time of the year, hands down. The air is boiling with festive jolly, people hold doors open for you with smiles wide, the night time is finally warm with lights even in the chilly cold of winter. Alright, enough of the poetic malaise, here are this Friday's Faves right in time for the best holiday of the year. Toast with some (spiced) egg nog and spread the cheer!

1. Open Faux-Fur Jacket - $73 - from Forever 21
2. Patent Leather Square Buckle Belt - $19 - from J.Crew
3. Jardin Gold & Crystal Layered Necklace - $55 - from Bluefly
4. Boots - $49 - from H&M
5. Burning Ground Dress - $120 - from NastyGal

DIY PROJECT || #3 || THE POM POM SWEATER

Tuesday, December 18

INGREDIENTS:
Knit sweater
Pom poms (ones used are 1" in diameter)
Sewing needle & thread
Crayons/markers and paper

STEP ONE: Gather thread to match the pom pom colors you choose as best you can. If you don't have as many colors on hand, it's still fine to use a thread the same color as the sweater, you'll just have to be a bit more careful with making sure it's not visible from the outside (and this will definitely take much less time to do I realized...about an hour after).
STEP TWO: Hold the pom pom in place with your less dominant hand and carefully turn the sweater so you can see the inside behind the pom pom you are holding. Begin sewing from the inside to minimize the appearance of the thread. I stitched in a criss cross pattern so as to create a circular base that held down the pom pom. A couple stitches dug deeper into the center of the pom pom to ensure it will stay put. When done, simply tie the thread off and snip off the excess! Move to the next pom pom!

FRIDAY'S FIVE FAVES || #2 || WINTER WARMTH

Friday, December 14

As the snow began to fall this morning, I couldn't help but image how horribly cold it would be outside (I'm from California -- I don't do this white frozen rain powdery stuff called snow). Alas, the greatest task during this time of year is somehow not walking out the door buried under winter coats with snow boots up to your knees (it may be how I will look like today #justsaying). For those who can brave the cold -- these are my favorite style picks. Which ones are yours?

1. Extra Long Funnel Knit Snood - $35 - from ASOS
2. Delts Silk Lined Leather Gloves - $102 - from ASOS
3. Acid Trip Skinny Jeans - $68 - from NastyGal
4. The Lovelock Tote - $248 - from Madewell
5. Fade Away Knit - $58 - from NastyGal

VISUAL DELIGHT || #1 || "EMBODIED SPRING" PHOTOSHOOT

Monday, December 10

When I photographed for I Like Fall (www.ilikefall.com), I recruited some college students to model for the launch of the online retail shop in September. This was one of my favorite shots, featuring a sophomore, Antonia. I was going for a grundy spring look and thus the large floral adornments on their faces. We partnered up with The Body Shop in Harvard Square which provided the make up for the models--a subtle dark and dreamy look. Overall, it was a great shoot and I'm still testing out the waters with my new baby--yes, my camera is my child. It is by far the most expensive thing I own but it is my pride and joy. Here's another one of my favorites...

THE BEGINNING ||

Monday, December 3

My name is Marjorie. That seems like a good beginning. I love exploring -- my mind, the world, a jewelry box, imagination. I don't like to make fuss out of not much, and that's why I've created this. A place to be simple; to express color, to splatter thoughts, to revel in lost concentration and vintage pieces. A place to boil down before spilling over. I love to create and I love to share. I guess I'm just really glad you're here.
